A Busy Christmas for PAYE Umbrella Contractors in Ecommerce
IT contractors working through umbrella companies are enjoying a lucrative Christmas, according to new data from the online jobs market PeoplePerHour.com. The company has recorded a spectacular 612% increase in the number of businesses that are hiring IT consultants, with demand for ecommerce roles showing the strongest surge at 102%. IT support roles came next with a rise of 95%, followed by a 70% increase in the demand for web programmers.
PeoplePerHour.com’s CEO, Xenios Thrasyvoulou, hailed the figures as a welcome sign that the IT sector is thriving despite difficult economic circumstances. He added “Our figures show that IT consultants are in high demand over the run up to Christmas. Businesses are able to increase their margins using freelancers and make the most of the extra income to be made over the festive season.”
There is even more seasonal cheer for specialists in IT contracting: a new survey from ReThink Recruitment confirms that demand for ecommerce expertise is soaring during the festive season - and so is the pay. Contractors in junior design roles working on ecommerce projects for tablet computers and smartphones can expect to earn around £350 per day, while those working on more conventional platforms (desktop- and laptop-based ecommerce tools) earn around 20% less at £250 per day.
Iain Blair, ReThink Recruitment’s Director, said “We are seeing a large wave of work as retailers beef up their mobile retailing offerings. They see mcommerce as an exciting new sales avenue and are more aware than ever of the potential boom in revenue from giving customers a highly customised and slick mobile browsing experience.”
