Apprenticeships could help boost jobs market

Making apprenticeships more readily available could boost the jobs market Making apprenticeships more readily available could boost the jobs market, an expert suggests.

The jobs market is likely to be boosted in the future by a greater provision of apprentices, one expert has suggested.

Not everyone will be able to become a healthcare contractor by going on to university or higher education, pointed out chief executive officer of Work Wise UK Phil Flaxton.

He noted that over the past 20 years, there has been a greater emphasis on the importance of people needing a degree in order to get a job, which is leaving many youngsters without them.

"[If] an employer has got the choice of taking on somebody with a degree or somebody without a degree, the chances are, you are going to take the one with a degree," Mr Flaxton explained.

The expert therefore called on large organisations to set up apprenticeship and training schemes in order to encourage youngsters to carry on learning, while providing them with practical skills.ADNFCR-3595-ID-800729728-ADNFCR
