Many people make claims on their CV which they fail to provide any evidence for, according to CV-writing consultancy The Write Stuff.
The company's founder and senior consultant, Peter Panayotou, explained that it is also important to be selective with information, to avoid an overly long contractor CV.
He noted: "The idea is to be able to sum it up very briefly, and that's why people don't generally do it very well ... it can end up being quite wordy.
"But you are supposed to give evidence about any claims that you make rather than just making a random statement."
PAYE umbrella companies could be set to play an increasingly important role in sourcing contractors for job opportunities in the coming months.
Recent research by GfK Custom Research indicated that more than half of workers aged between 18 and 29 years old are actively seeking a new job, which could grow as university leavers hit the jobs market.
