The group flagged up issues with the legislation, including the administrative burden of tracking repeated short-term assignments, how performance-related bonuses are to be included under the banner of equal treatment and the definition and tests of legitimate self-employment.
Kevin Green, the REC''s chief executive, claimed that the meeting was a good first encounter with the new employment relations minister.
He said: "Our concerns were recognised and we have been asked to submit practical ideas for limiting the cost and bureaucracy on agencies and their clients."
Mr Green added that the REC will continue to pressure the government on this important decision.
Last month, FreelanceUK.com reported that, while a review of IR35 is on the cards, abolition may not take place as quickly as many umbrella company users hope.
