Contractors ''must handle leaving a project carefully''

The etiquette of leaving can be difficult for contractors Departing from a project can be a delicate process for contractors, an expert has warned.

Contractors who are finishing a project and preparing to move on to new work should make sure they handle the last few weeks in their role carefully, an expert has advised.

Cojak, writing for ContractorUK, has highlighted the fact that many of those working in IT roles are not sure about the etiquette of leaving.

He advocates judging this on the context of the company, suggesting that a drink with colleagues is appropriate where one has enjoyed the company of their co-workers.

The quality of the handover is one area where compromise must not be made, he adds, as it is important to leave clients with a "good, professional opinion" of your services.

Cojak said: "I always create a detailed handover document listing all deliverables I''ve created, their status, location and any notes regarding future work on them."

Earlier this month, Association of Recruitment Consultancies chairman Adrian Marlowe claimed that the recession has not stopped companies from searching for valuable employees.ADNFCR-3595-ID-800018323-ADNFCR
