IT Contracting Opportunities in Cloud Computing Will Soar in 2012, New Report Suggests

PAYE umbrella contractors working in the IT skills market might do well to prick up their ears and take heed of a forecast from IT recruitment firm Modis International: if you want to find placements in 2012, get cloud savvy - fast.

250 IT decision makers from around the UK were surveyed in the latest Modis study. Well over a third (36%) reported that they believed IT roles have changed significantly in 2011 as a result of the increasing uptake of cloud computing by British firms and organisations. This is only a beginning: specialist in IT contracting should be aware that the respondents believe the trend will accelerate in 2012.

Modis Managing Director Jim Albert said “Although cloud computing was supposed to flourish in 2011, the process of integrating this technology into business systems has taken longer than expected. As a result, next year’s major IT innovation will come in the form of effective utilisation and implementation of cloud technology.”

As a consequence, IT has mutated from being a mere background technology into an integral component of business strategy for many UK companies, Modis argues. Mr Albert continued “IT professionals are amongst the first to feel technological changes in the workplace, but are also amongst some of the best placed to meet any challenges head on.” He went on to add that as cloud computing continues to develop, there would be high demand for those with relevant skills.

Certified candidates are especially in demand, the Modis report concludes, “from security officers to information assurance consultants and penetration testers.” Organisations want candidates who can equip them with vital protection against threats and maintain network security.
