IT departments ''must be more flexible''

It is necessary for IT departments to be more flexible in their approach to mobile devices, an expert says.

IT contractors need to help departments around the country improve their approach to mobile devices, an expert has highlighted.

David Akka, managing director in the UK, Ireland and Nordic regions at Magic Software Enterprises, said that all popular devices need to be supported at the moment.

"They need to try to take a decision – do they go into one platform and develop it, or do they use a platform that knows how to support multiple platforms," he explained.

Mr Akka stressed that there will also be another challenge facing organisations, as they will not only need to use multiple devices, but also deliver various applications.

A survey of 200 small and medium-sized enterprises by Timico recently showed that 72 per cent of businesses are concerned about their staff bringing their own devices into work.

Furthermore, 61 per cent said that the data on their devices was either not protected or they did not know if it was.
