Technology start-ups in particular can benefit from the expertise of those in the field of software engineering, explained chief executive officer of Songkick Ian Hogarth.
"Despite having some of the world's best engineering institutions here in the UK, the default choice for top engineering graduates is to join a bank or management consultancy," he continued.
Mr Hogarth added that these workers are the "lifeblood" of those starting out in the technology industry.
Research from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development shows that flexible working conditions can benefit a range of businesses, regardless of their size.
Its Modern Workplaces consultation identified that there is a rise of a two-tier labour market developing that exempts micro-businesses and start-ups.
The group therefore believes that the right to request flexible working should be extended to all employees.
