Women protest against changes to state pension age

Women have presented a petition to the prime minister, objecting to the raising of the state pension age Women have presented a petition to the prime minister, objecting to the raising of the state pension age.

Prime minister David Cameron has been presented with a petition from a number of women, who believe the state pension age should not be increased beyond 65 until 2020.

Under the current proposals, women will have to wait an additional two years for their state pension and have less than seven years' notice to make plans for the change.

Age UK indicated that this does not give people the chance to plan for their financial futures, potentially leaving many in poverty.

Michelle Mitchell, charity director at Age UK said: "This is the government's last chance to do the right thing by thousands of hard-working women up and down the country who are being penalised by the pensions bill."

Prudential recently urged people to seek pensions advice, after it emerged that as many as one in three people are not currently enrolled in a company or private pension.ADNFCR-3595-ID-800728873-ADNFCR
